Get Out of Your Own Way

Have you ever had a moment when you've thought of something, and it immediately came true? Like when a friend pops into your mind, and the phone rings, and it's her? Or the time I asked for clarity during my morning meditation for my house that wouldn't sell, and when I looked at my phone 10 minutes later, I had a text from someone who wanted to rent it. Or the time I declared to the Universe, "I'm going to get a job." I emailed a woman and inquired about teaching opportunities, and she called me 5 minutes after I sent my email to tell me someone had just quit.

We are always sending arrows of intention into the Universe. And the arrow will always land where it was aimed - that's physics. Luckily, unlike the Archery class I took in High School, I don't have to worry about my skill at lining up the arrow with the bullseye. In life, whatever our need, goal, or desire, the Universe will provide it. Sometimes quickly, and sometimes not quickly. That part isn't for us to decide.

Moments when I have received my intention almost as swiftly as I put it out there give me reassurance that this energy is happening all the time. So many people, events, and tiny-second details must come together for the smallest intentions, like thinking of your friend who happens to call before the image of her even leaves your mind. Do you know all that had to conspire for that kind of divine timing?

The Universe is not selective; everything is part of the larger plan - even, and maybe especially, the supposed detours.

Detours usually mean there is more to learn, more to do, or that it's simply not the right time. Your arrow is still flying, and even when it doesn't feel like it to you, the arrow is always heading straight for its target.

There are a few things that could prevent our arrow from flying its course. Maybe we yell at it. Maybe we worry about it. Maybe we try to swat it in a different direction. Imagine if you took aim, pulled back your bow, and released. Then imagine if you ran after the arrow in order to make sure it was ok. Imagine if you babysat your arrow after it left your fingertips. If you berated the arrow, or second guessed whether or not it would make its target.

The arrow is fine. The arrow knows how to fly once released into the ethers. We have to learn how not to intervene, how to enact faith in the natural course of things, and how to let go.

I challenge you to consider your thoughts, which are your intentions, your arrows. Your desires and dreams are not an accident - they are intended for you, which is why dreams are different for everyone.Have faith that nothing is out of reach, and nothing is too far away. Your aim could be realized immediately, or over time. Once you send it out there, take some action on your part, pay attention, and do what feels right. Be patient but steadfast. There is no need to intervene with the arrow. It is destined and designed to hit its mark, every time.
