It is Time

The times that have been the biggest growth moments for me have never been convenient. But then, is there a convenient time to get sober? Is there a convenient time to get divorced? Is there a convenient time to begin a new physical practice, or a new spiritual practice? Is there a convenient time to make any big change?

The things that will catapult us forward are never convenient. Because if it were up to us, we'd probably just stay the same, comfortable and in our normal routine. When the time came that I had to stop drinking, I remember looking back and thinking, How did this happen to me? When did this happen to me?

A few short months before I was fine. Until all of a sudden, I wasn't fine.

The things that will catapult us forward always appear sudden. Truthfully, they've built up over time, nudging us slowly at first, until something more eventful forces us to actually wake up and pay attention.

Timing is both perfect and inconvenient - always.

Whatever is happening for you right now, it is time. Time to do what's necessary. Time to take care of yourself. Time to say no. Time to say yes. Time to embark on a new adventure. Time to quit. Time to allow your heart open. Time to choose yourself.

Whatever is uncomfortable, it is here to teach you something. It is here to grab your attention. If it's happening, you don't need to worry about whether or not it's the right time - if it's happening, it is time.

This is true for good things too. Sometimes it's easier for me to deal with the tragedies in life than the celebrations. When something good happens, or I feel an uplifting sensation, I don't always know how to respond. Why are we more used to feeling bad than feeling good?

Know that whatever good is happening right now, it is time for that too. Welcome it in, and embrace it. You have worked hard, and you deserve it.
