The Wisdom in Our Patterns

The only way to be free of something you no longer want in your life is to change it. And the change needs to come from within you. The outside world and circumstances will not change for us - we will always be faced with challenge, pain, failure, illness, injury, setback or disfunction. Our reaction to life is up to us. How we handle our darkest moments teaches us a lot about who we are and what we welcome in.

When life really has us down, maybe as a series of "bad luck" or nothing going right, there is a great opportunity to become aware of our patterns.

Patterns show up because we have created them. Patterns can be good, bad, healthy, or unhealthy. We can like our patterns, or we can loathe them. But our patterns are always of our own doing, and therefore always under our control to change.

It's likely the pattern has been going on for so long, you are quite comfortable with it. It seems to be the only way because it always has been. What if life didn't have to be this way? What if you have more control than you think?

Consider where you feel stuck or agitated. Arrive at the belief that has stayed with you for years or your entire life. What keeps happening that you would like to change?

Remember that change takes courage and hard work. It is easier to stay in a pattern of bad habits or negative self talk. It is easy to keep doing what you have always done. But we are all capable of hard work. We are all capable of change.

A pattern is only as powerful as our inability to see our role in it.
