It's True if you Believe it
What is true? What is real? If you are a member of my yoga practice, we ask these questions regularly. I learned these questions during my teacher training at Kripalu, and they apply to everything.
The point of asking, what is true? isn't to be confusing or dismissive. The point of asking is to dive into the brave inquiry of rediscovering ourself, and redefining who we are.
Too often we see everything from the outside-in. We define our worth, our identity, and our level of fulfillment by outside people and things. If we are in a bad or unhealthy relationship, we blame ourselves and believe somehow, on some level, we deserve it. If we are in a successful career, we feel obligated to be happy, even if we don't feel that way. We cling to material possessions, homes, and status because we believe it will affect our state of mind. We view our body and our appearance as something we can control. We take on others' actions against us, and believe we are the cause.
Yoga teaches us to live from the inside-out.
When we are happy and fulfilled on the inside, when we are deserving and worthy, when we know who we are, then everything inside of us is reflected in our outside world - our appearance, our relationships, our attraction.
We cannot live from the outside-in and expect that there won't be a disconnect when the outside does not match up with how we actually feel on a deep, subconscious level.
I've been struggling lately with my own truth when it comes to romantic relationships. I've been asking myself, Am I worthy of love? Deep, sexy, consuming, vulnerable love?
I am deserving of love if I believe I am.
Where in your life do you feel you are missing the mark? Where do you want more or something different?
Instead of searching for a person, job, situation, or possession that can fill this longing, start by asking yourself how you view yourself. What are your fears? What are your beliefs? What are your past experiences and patterns that could point to a false or habitual belief about yourself?
When you uncover old wounds, you begin to heal. When you heal, you attract your deepest desires. When you fulfill your deepest longings, from the inside out, everyone around you benefits.
